Stanford Tech Club: Fireside Chat with Jeff Jordan, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz
Technology cycles reward companies that build durable advantages, not just compelling demos.
Join us for an intimate fireside chat with Jeff Jordan, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Jeff joined a16z in 2011 as the firm’s fifth General Partner and has spent the majority of his career there backing and supporting category-defining companies across consumer and marketplace platforms. He is also a co-founder of Wealthfront.
Prior to a16z, Jeff was CEO of OpenTable, where he led the company through rapid domestic and international growth and a successful IPO during one of the longest tech IPO droughts in recent history. Earlier, he led eBay North America and helped drive the acquisition of PayPal, later serving as President of PayPal.
In this conversation, we will explore how AI is reshaping consumer platforms and marketplaces, and what it takes to build defensible companies in an era where core capabilities can commoditize quickly.
We will cover:
• How AI changes the defensibility equation for marketplaces
• Where durable advantage in consumer AI will emerge
• Whether AI strengthens or weakens network effects
• Build versus buy decisions in an AI-native world
• What public markets will reward in the next IPO cycle
Expect a candid discussion on long-term value creation, platform strategy, and the next generation of enduring companies.
