​Why your next opportunity is someone you have forgotten

​Most people treat being well connected as a personality trait. You either work the room or you don't. That model is wrong, and it is why almost all networking advice is useless.

​Sociability can be engineered and It runs on 4 principles:

• ​Opportunity comes from the edge of your network, not the centre. The people who change your year are almost never the people you speak to every week.

• ​Position beats merit. The same idea, carried by someone standing between two worlds, gets taken seriously in a way it never does from inside one.

• ​Nobody can hold the edge in their head. Your memory has a ceiling, and the edge is the first thing to fall out of it.

• ​And a relationship you cannot retrieve is worth nothing. Trust lasts far longer than memory. The value is still sitting there. You just cannot find it any more.

​This hour turns those four principles into something operational: how I map, enrich and query my own network, and what becomes possible once you can actually reach the edge of it.
