About Event
Session 3 brought together 59 guitarists from 6 countries — from the USA to Tonga, Israel to Colombia — to work through "Displicente" together. This month, we go further back: to the polca, the 19th-century salon dance that fused with Afro-Brazilian rhythm to shape choro itself.
Session 4 is built around "Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho," one of Ernesto Nazareth's best-loved polcas — bright, syncopated, and "muito própria para serenatas," as the composer himself marked it.
As always: 90 minutes working through the tune together, plus 30 minutes with a special guest for live conversation and Q&A.
This month's special guest is Marcello Gonçalves. One of Brazil's most acclaimed seven-string guitarists, the Grammy Award–nominated Marcello Gonçalves is internationally renowned not only as a stellar performer, but also as a sought-after musical director, arranger, producer, and educator.
Every session includes a complete PDF study package — scores, fingerings, rhythm patterns, bass lines, and harmonic analysis — plus live guided learning on Zoom with Douglas Lora.
