Lerotholi Ave Sundays (Monthly Open Streets)
LEROTHOLI AVE SUNDAYS IS BACK!
Street Experiments South Africa is returning to Langa! From Sunday, 29 November 2026, Lerotholi Avenue will once again open to people on the last Sunday of every month until April 2027, from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Come walk, cycle, play, meet your neighbours and enjoy a Sunday on the street without through traffic. There will be activities for all ages, with more details shared closer to each Sunday.
Lerotholi Ave Sundays builds on the work of Langa Bicycle Hub and Open Streets Africa, using temporary street closures to test how neighbourhood streets can be safer and work better for the people who use them.
The Langa edition is presented by Young Urbanists, 16 on Lerotholi, the Office of the Executive Mayor of Cape Town and the City's Urban Mobility Directorate, with support from the Safe Passage Programme.
Everything you need to know:
When: The last Sunday of every month, from 29 November 2026 until 25 April 2027.
Time: 10 AM to 5 PM.
Where: Lerotholi Avenue, Langa, Cape Town.
Activities: Walking, cycling, street games and community activities. The programme changes monthly, so follow Street Experiments Afrika for updates.

Lerotholi Ave Sundays is a street experiment, not an event or festival. There are no food trucks, commercial stalls or amplified music. We're testing how the street can work better for people, with the community helping shape what happens next.
Two Open Streets, one BikeBus and Metro on Sundays
Bree St Sundays is also returning on 29 November, opening Bree Street in the Cape Town City Centre every Sunday until April 2027.
Through the Active Mobility Forum and Friends, we'll be organising a BikeBus between Bree Street and Lerotholi Avenue (and potentially from Khayelitsha to Langa), allowing people to cycle as a group between the two Open Streets. More information on routes, times and how to join will be shared soon.
Good news! Metrorail will once again be running Sunday train services from December until January 2027, just in time for our open streets.
