Class Pet: Plushies

Led by guest artist Molly Gorlick

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to make a 3D plushie using an existing sewing pattern. Choose between a goldfish, snake, or turtle and learn how to cut, assemble, sew, and shape the pieces into a finished plushie.

The workshop focuses on learning how to work from a sewing pattern and turn flat pieces of fabric into a three-dimensional object. You’ll learn how to follow a pattern, understand how the pieces fit together, and use basic sewing techniques to construct your plushie.

The snake is the simplest option and is suitable for beginners with little or no sewing experience. The goldfish and turtle involve more pieces and construction and are better suited for participants with some previous sewing experience.

You’ll be able to choose the fabric and colors for your plushie while working from the provided pattern. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a finished 3D plushie to take home.

Artist Bio:

Molly is a textile designer who grew up mostly in New York, with roots in Sweden and Canada. She has spent the last ten years working in textiles, specializing in rug design for brands in New York. While rugs have been the focus of her professional work, she has always loved to sew and has a particular passion for figuring out patterns and making fabric turn into form.

She loves working with color, pattern, and texture, and especially enjoys finding ways to use scraps and leftover materials from past projects. Those odds and ends often become part of something new, adding unexpected colors, combinations, and character to what she makes. Alongside her rug design work, Molly has a small machine embroidery practice and is generally happiest when experimenting, making things with her hands, and figuring things out as she goes.

With a baby arriving this fall, plushies and other small, sweet, handmade things have been especially top of mind lately, making this class a particularly fun one for her to teach.

About Kiki and Bouba Craft Lab:

Kiki and Bouba is an experimental craft lab run out of our private studio in East Williamsburg. Artists ourselves, we spend our days tinkering so we can bring you exciting, new crafts you won't find anywhere else. Our classes are intentionally very small so you'll have your instructor's attention throughout the class. Questions are welcome at every step.

What to Expect at Our Workshops:

This is not a paint-and-sip. We specialize in 2–4 hour workshops that teach you the fundamentals of skills that have taken us years to hone. Classes are skill-intensive and hands-on, with a small seat capacity so everyone gets the attention they need. Come ready to learn, make, and work at your own pace.

Refund Policy:

Kiki & Bouba Craft Lab is a small, artist-run studio led by just the two of us, Adrianna and Zolzaya. Every ticket directly supports the materials, space, fees, and care that go into each workshop. Because of this, all ticket purchases are final and non-refundable, so we encourage you to book thoughtfully. If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to pass your spot along to a friend.
