As an emerging hub for both extraction and processing, Asia is at the center of the clean energy transition's mineral supply chains, which are crucial for electric vehicles, batteries, and renewable energy technologies. The escalating global demand for minerals like nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements brings significant economic opportunities, but also poses complex geopolitical, social, and environmental challenges. The session aims to move beyond the simple narrative of resource demand and supply, fostering a more nuanced dialogue on building transparent, equitable, and sustainable mineral value chains. We will explore collaborative solutions, from regional policy frameworks to responsible cross-border corporate practices that respect the rights and well-being of communities as well as their role as active agents in decision-making and benefit-sharing.
