Punk Software Hack Night: LLM Freemaxxing
What's Freemaxxing?
Lots of compute and token providers out there are giving out free tokens — in exchange for signup, ads, name recognition, or simply by mistake via a customer support bot (anyone remember chipotleai-max)?
And most of it is funded by VC money and the AI bubble.
Punk software is all about breaking the late stage capitalism system, and why not improve the world while we do it?
Goal: Build something useful that takes advantage of freemaxxing: perhaps to build AI-empowered tools for low-resourced or underprivileged user groups, or perhaps just to make fun of the phenomenon and discourage warped incentives and the endless AI tech startup hunger for user growth at all costs.
What this might mean:
we thought chipotleai-max was really funny — uses a customer service chatbot to power a coding agent
build something that helps someone knowledge-rich but cash-poor. like a harness that's even cheaper than opencode zen
build something that funnels free or underpriced enterprise stuff to the less fortunate. Like toogoodtogo or food banks but for tokens.
Convert free compute (eg aws free tiers) into free inference
Explore agent skills and other UX to make it feel good to work with slow API models or dumb local models
Make it easy for a real human to find out about and automatically sign up for free tokens — and to avoid paying

SCHEDULE
6pm - 6:30pm — meet people, brainstorm ideas. There'll be a big co-ideation collaborative editing document to throw them around!
6:30pm — kickoff. We'll place a dinner order here so show up by 6:30 or else you'll miss the order!
6:30 - 9:00pm — quiet time, work solo or in groups on your project
9:00 - 9:30pm — demos. We'll open up first to projects built today, then to work built on top of preexisting projects. Submit your projects by pushing to github and adding the topic tag #punksoftware
9:30pm - 10pm — Try out other folks' projects and ask them questions about how they built it!
