Talk: Building Native Mac Apps in React
Speaker: Rilley Hillard
Abstract: Kelvo is an open-source Mac system monitor with 30 days of history: when your laptop heats up at 3pm, you can scroll back and see which process did it. Its UI is React and TypeScript, running inside a native Mac app built with Tauri. In this talk I'll demo the app, then show how a Tauri app is put together for people who've never worked in one: a Vite frontend, a Rust process, typed commands and channels between them, and TypeScript types generated from Rust. We'll follow one CPU reading from the hardware to a React chart and look at what each layer costs, including the surprise that the most expensive performance consumer of the app was the menu bar icon.
