About Event

Come spend an afternoon writing postcards with us in Golden Gate Park.

Postcards in the Park is a collaboration between Read in the Park and Dear SF Mail Club, bringing together both communities for an afternoon of writing something by hand, meeting new people, and sending a little something to someone you’ve been meaning to write to.

Write to a friend, family member, someone across the world, someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, or simply someone you want to make smile.

💌 How the event goes

We’ll start the afternoon with quiet postcard writing. Write at your own pace and to whoever you’d like.

After writing, we’ll move into smaller groups for conversations in the usual Read in the Park style. You’ll never be asked to read your postcard or share anything you’ve written.

At the end, anyone who wants to can join us for a short walk to a nearby mailbox so we can send our postcards on their way together.

💌 Postcards

We’ll have 50 complimentary postcards gifted by Dear SF Mail Club from their upcoming mailer, available one per person while supplies last, first come first served.

Want to write more than one? We’ll also have a few additional postcard collections and goodies from the Dear SF Mail Club available to purchase at the event.

You’re also very welcome to bring your own postcards if there’s one you’ve been holding onto and meaning to send.

💌 Please bring your own stamp

Postage is not provided for this event.

If you’d like to mail your postcard with us at the end of the afternoon, please remember to bring your own stamp.

💌 What to bring

→ A stamp if you’d like to mail your postcard
→ A pen
→ Any postcards of your own you’d like to write
→ The address of whoever you’re writing to
→ A blanket or something to sit on
→ Layers or a jacket
→ Water or a snack if you’d like

📍 Getting there

We’ll be meeting at Peacock Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

We’re still choosing our exact spot and will share the meeting location with registered attendees closer to the event.

Look out for the Read in the Park and Dear SF Mail Club signs when you arrive.

💌 How the afternoon goes

2:00–2:15 PM → Arrive, check in, choose your postcard, and get settled
2:15–3:00 PM → Postcard writing
3:00–4:00 PM → Small-group conversations
4:00–4:30 PM → Group photo, wrap-up, and walk to mail our postcards and grab a beverage from a cafe close by

📸 Photography

We may take a few photos and short clips during the afternoon to share moments from the event.

If you’d prefer not to be photographed, just let one of our hosts know when you arrive.

💌 Read in the Park × Dear SF Mail Club

Both communities are about connection, just in slightly different ways.

For this afternoon, that connection happens in two directions: with the people sitting beside you in the park, and with whoever finds your postcard in their mailbox afterward.

For the people you’ve been meaning to write to. 💌

💌 About Dear SF Mail Club

Dear SF Mail Club is a monthly love letter to San Francisco, delivered right to your mailbox. 💌 Each month, we create a one-of-a-kind collection of local art, city stories, hidden history, and little invitations to get out and explore. It’s part mail club, part love letter, and part community, designed to help us feel a little more connected to this city and to each other. Made in SF, for people who love SF.

📚 About Read in the Park

Read in the Park is a Bay Area reading community that meets twice a month to read our own books together in the park. Every once in a while, we also try a new hobby together or go on a community side quest around the Bay Area.

Come solo or bring a friend. Plenty of people show up by themselves.

See you in the Park.
