Understanding Canada Vancouver: An Ever Changing Canadian Labour Market
Canadians Dissecting Canadian Challenges
This session is being held in Vancouver, BC.
A big shoutout to Feenstra Architecture for having us in their space!
Understanding the complexities of core issues facing Canadians today can be a difficult, and quite frankly overwhelming, task to take on individually. In the age of social media, it’s becoming near impossible to isolate facts – emotions dominate conversation, extremism echo chambers are becoming louder, and traditional news sources are becoming increasingly partisan.
If you're someone who seeks to build a better future, you will require clear information & unbiased facts to make the best decisions on what we do next.
Understanding Canada is a biweekly reading group nationwide hosted by Build Canada designed to provide you with exactly that. Each session, interested minds gather to read & review Canadian reports & papers on policy, cultural, and economic challenges.
Together, we will investigate the deepest problems facing our country, comprehend the seemingly indigestible webs of information surrounding them, and craft new perspectives.
We encourage individuals of many backgrounds to attend this event. The more diverse the audience, the better the experience.
Session 1: An Ever Changing Canadian Labour Market
In this session, we will read through a staff analytical note from the Bank of Canada evaluating the state of the 2025 labour market relative to historical benchmarks (spoiler alert: it's rough out there right now). Together, we'll digest the data and link it to trends, policy decisions, and global conditions to understand why we're in the position we're in.
This Session's Reading
Benchmarks for assessing labour market health: 2025 update by Fares Bounajm, Tessa Devakos posted June 2025 as a staff analytical note for the Bank of Canada.
