How Can We Become More, not Less, Creative in the Age of AI?
AI can help us generate ideas, explore new possibilities, and create things more quickly. But an important question is emerging: How can we strengthen our own creativity while also taking advantage of what AI can offer?
Creativity is one of our most important human strengths. We often experience enjoyment and a deep sense of meaning when we are creative. In the age of AI, deep thriving means not simply becoming more productive, but continuing to develop the human capacities that help us grow, create, and move forward with greater agency and purpose.
In this session
We will explore current research and practical strategies to understand:
How AI influences human creativity
What psychology research tells us about the conditions and practices that help creativity grow
How to work with AI in ways that expand our ideas without replacing our own creative thinking
The session will combine research, reflection, and practical exercises that you can apply to your work and everyday life.
About Me
I am Prof. Pilyoung Kim. I’m a developmental psychologist, neuroscientist, and Professor of Psychology at the University of Denver, where I also direct the Center for Brain, AI, and Child.
For more than 20 years, I’ve studied how we develop, experience emotions, build relationships, and maintain our well-being.
More recently, my work has expanded to an important new question: how is AI changing the way we think, relate to others, and live our lives?
I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to AI safety and policy efforts involving OpenAI, Google, leading AI policy organizations, and a U.S. Congressional briefing.
