TAÍNA VIVA: Solo Show by Navrioska (Navrix) M³
What if slowing down could be an act of rebellion?
What stories live in the places we come from?
And what happens when we allow sound, movement, color, and imagination to guide us?
About Taína Viva
TAÍNA VIVA is a new body of work by Afro-Caribbean, Dominican artist Navrioska “Navrix” M³, exploring her Taíno-AfroCaribbean roots through a contemporary and deeply personal lens.
The exhibition brings together drawing, mixed media, sound, movement, and performance, creating an immersive world where magical creatures, bold colors, symbols, and unexpected forms become vehicles for exploring identity, cultural memory, spirituality, community, and belonging.
Developed during her New Women New Yorkers Artist Residency at Governors Island, TAÍNA VIVA is rooted in Navrix’s curiosity about Taíno ways of living and the ways culture continues to evolve, transform, and live through us.
Rather than presenting history as something frozen in the past, Navrix uses her practice to ask what it means to reimagine, reconnect, and create from what we carry with us today.
Her process also incorporates meditative drawing practices, inviting the body and the senses into the creative process. Sound and movement are not simply additions to the artwork. They are part of how the work is experienced, discovered, and brought to life.

About the Artist in Residence
Navrioska “Navrix” Mateo Mejía is a multidisciplinary artist from La Vega, Dominican Republic, based in New York. Her work explores identity, culture, memory, and connection, often bringing together different mediums and inviting people to experience art rather than simply look at it.
During her artist residency with New Women New Yorkers (NWNY) at Governors Island, Navrix is developing Taína Viva, a new body of work rooted in ancestral memory and spirituality.
Through mixed media, sound, and movement, Taína Viva explores immigration, identity, healing, and the possibility of carrying ancestral knowledge forward while creating new forms of collective belonging.
Connecting To Self is part of this exploration. Through drawing, breath, sound, and movement, Navrix invites participants to slow down, turn inward, and explore drawing as a way of connecting with themselves and the world around them.
