Irish Stories, Global Stages
This special evening will bring the Abbey Theatre into conversation with the Boston community of scholars, artists and friends of Ireland to explore and consider the contemporary purpose of a national theatre.
Through a moderated discussion led by Professor Mary Murphy, Director of the Irish Institute at Boston College, the event will bring together Professor Senia Pašeta, Boston College’s Burns Visiting Scholar in Irish Studies, Abbey Theatre’s Artistic Director Caitríona McLaughlin, Abbey Theatre’s Executive Director Mark O'Brien, and actor, director and producer Geraldine Hughes.
The discussion will consider the Abbey's role in reflecting and challenging Irish identity, nurturing writers and artists, giving expression to the complexity of contemporary Ireland, and creating work that connects with audiences at home and internationally.
The panel discussion will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.
