Silicon Swamp
Are you interested in tech and programming?
Join us at the Boyd Innovation Center for an evening of technical discussions, and networking! Every second Thursday of the month, we have a meetup where technologists and tech-interested individuals come to discuss developments in the tech industry, including new technologies and techniques.
Esti Beaudet from FOSSA will guide developers and founders through the practical basics of open source licensing, third-party component risk, and SBOMs. This talk will explain what software licenses are, how permissive and copyleft licenses differ, how to identify the obligations attached to a dependency, and what to do when a component introduces legal or compliance risk. It will also cover how SBOMs help teams understand what third-party and open source components are in their products, audit vulnerability exposure, and report licensed components to customers, auditors, or regulatory bodies before those risks become expensive and complicated.
Paul Starr will give a quick live tour of ephtracy's MagicaVoxel, a free 3D voxel modeling tool, followed by a perspective about the engineering lessons that might be learned from its careful design and extreme performance.
Afterwards, we'll leave for Bangback Arcade for food, drinks, and networking.
