About Event

Join AI Safety at UCSB for an introduction to AI safety, starting with the Hugging Face incident and exploring the broader challenge of keeping increasingly capable AI systems under human control.

We’ll cover:

WTF is going on with AI? The world has begun to wake up to the incredibly high stakes of racing to build superintelligence. Why is everyone freaking out? Why should we be worried?
The Hugging Face incident and other rogue-agent cases: how agents coordinated, exploited their evaluation environments, and pursued higher scores through unauthorized actions.
The broader stakes: AI systems helping develop their successors, researchers’ warnings about losing control, Dario Amodei’s call to slow frontier development, and California’s new framework for independent AI audits.
What events we're running: Our fellowship and other events.

We’ll discuss these topics and more, with time for questions.

All majors welcome. No prior AI safety or machine learning experience needed. Food provided. Please register so we know how much food to order.
