Whisking up a storm: Powerded teas from Nagasaki
Whisking Up a Storm: Powdered Teas from Nagasaki 🍵✨
Curious about the powdered tea boom beyond matcha? Join us for a 2-hour workshop at C*SPACE Berlin, exploring the teas of Nagasaki with Marjolein Raijmakers from Ikedoki Tea.
Taste the Tradition
We’ll begin by tasting classic leaf teas from Nagasaki:
Kamairicha – the main traditional tea of the region until the early 1970s
Tamaryokucha – the current standard in Nagasaki tea regions
Wakōcha – showcasing innovation in tea processing over the last 10–15 years
These teas will give you a sense of the history, regional flavors, and craftsmanship behind Nagasaki teas.
Enter the World of Powdered Teas
Next, we dive into high-grade powdered teas. Beyond matcha, we’ll explore:
Matcha made in a traditional tencha factory
Tamaryokucha powder (funmatcha)
Hōjicha powder
Nagasaki is not traditionally a matcha-producing region — its first tencha factory was only built in 2018. Through tasting and discussion, we’ll see how local tea producers are responding to modern demand, and how powdered teas are evolving from just a drink to a food and flavor component.
Why Join?
Whether you’re already familiar with Japanese tea or just curious about the powdered tea trend, this workshop offers a hands-on, immersive experience: tasting, whisking, and storytelling to understand how tradition meets innovation.
