Freshwater Ecosystems & Policy: Understanding the Landscape and Shaping Collective Action
Policy plays a critical role in enabling—or constraining—the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems. Yet the policy landscape for freshwater ecosystems in India is complex, fragmented, and constantly evolving.
This discussion brings together Alliance members and partners to collectively reflect on the current freshwater ecosystem policy landscape and explore meaningful pathways for engagement.
The session will have four key parts:
A presentation of a freshwater ecosystem policy landscape analysis conducted a few years ago, offering a baseline understanding of existing policies, gaps, and overlaps.
A presentation by the Civis (civis.vote) team on how they work with organisations and alliances to enable structured, effective participation in policy processes.
An open discussion to collectively reflect on the current policy context, emerging challenges, and opportunities for engagement.
A working conversation to outline possible directions for a Policy Circle within the Alliance, including priorities, modes of engagement, and next steps.
The session is intended as a shared learning and sense-making space, aimed at grounding future policy-related work of the Alliance in both evidence and collective intent.
