MelanInScience x Hack the Hood Bioinformatics Workshop
Hack the Hood, in partnership with MelaninScience, invites you to an engaging workshop exploring bioinformatics. Bioinformatics sits at the intersection of biology, computer science, and statistics, fueling breakthroughs in healthcare, genetics, and biotech.
This workshop will be led by Aneesa Valentine, Bioinformatics Solutions Architect at TileDB and founder of ImpaktBio, who brings deep expertise in biology, data science, and biotech education. Participants will gain an accessible overview of what bioinformatics is and why it matters, followed by an interactive case study using a real-world dataset! Together, we’ll explore how data informs discoveries in the life sciences and how technology is transforming the biotech landscape.
At Hack the Hood, we believe tech isn’t limited to traditional hardware and software companies. Tech is everywhere, shaping industries in ways that may not always be visible. This workshop is a powerful example of that and part of our effort to help people broaden their perspective on what a tech career can look like. Especially in today’s climate, where there’s uncertainty around entry level programming opportunities, we want our community to see the diverse and growing opportunities for applying tech skills across fields.
Whether you’re simply curious about the field or envisioning a future career in biotech, this workshop will introduce you to the powerful role of bioinformatics in shaping the future of science and health.
