Build Your First AI-Powered iOS App with Apple Foundation Models
Build Your First AI-Powered iOS App with Apple Foundation Models
Go from building traditional SwiftUI apps to creating intelligent iOS experiences powered by on-device AI.
AI is changing how we build applications. But how do you go from experimenting with AI to actually integrating it into a working iOS app?
In this live, hands-on workshop, you'll build an AI-powered recipe recommendation app from scratch using SwiftUI and Apple's Foundation Models framework.
Users will select ingredients from a list, and your app will use Apple's on-device language model to recommend recipes they can prepare. Each recommendation will include ingredients, preparation times, and step-by-step cooking instructions.
You won't just watch a demonstration. You'll write the code, build the interface, integrate AI, and see your application running on your own device.
What You'll Be Able to Do After This Workshop
By the end of these two hours, you'll be able to:
Build an iOS application that uses Apple's on-device AI without requiring external AI APIs.
Transform user input into personalized, AI-generated recommendations.
Generate structured Swift objects instead of dealing with unstructured text.
Build responsive SwiftUI interfaces that display AI-generated content as it arrives.
Apply these same techniques to your own apps, including fitness, education, productivity, and more.
The App You'll Build
You'll create an AI-powered recipe recommendation app where users can:
Select ingredients from a predefined list.
Discover recipes based on their selected ingredients.
View recipe details, preparation times, and cooking instructions.
See recommendations appear progressively as they're generated.
You'll build this application step by step, from the SwiftUI interface to the AI integration.
What Makes This Workshop Different?
This isn't a lecture about AI concepts or a collection of disconnected code examples.
You'll work on one practical application from start to finish, learning how the different pieces fit together.
Along the way, you'll use LanguageModelSession, @Generable, @Guide, structured generation, and streaming to solve real application development problems.
More importantly, you'll understand how to use these techniques in applications beyond the recipe generator.
Who Is This For?
This workshop is for Swift and SwiftUI developers who want to start building AI-powered iOS applications.
You don't need previous experience with AI, machine learning, or large language models.
Requirements
To follow along, you'll need:
A Mac with Xcode 27 or later.
A physical iPhone or iPad running iOS 27 or later.
A device that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence enabled and the on-device model available.
Basic knowledge of Swift and SwiftUI.
Please set up your development environment before the workshop.
