Backing Australian made AI
A discussion with the Hon Dr Andrew Charlton MP, Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy
UTS Startups is honoured to host a speech and conversation on a critical area of economic policy: how Australian procurement can best support Australian AI solutions and national prosperity.
Australia stands at a pivotal “sliding doors” moment.
As AI becomes a strategic capability across the economy, procurement will be one of the key levers shaping the role that Australia’s innovators play.
Procurement decisions being made right now will determine whether Australia builds its own AI capability or becomes permanently dependent on technology developed overseas.
Dr Charlton will deliver a speech with a core argument: where we source our AI from matters—and the consequences of getting it right or wrong could last for decades.
This speech will be followed by a conversation with:
Distinguished Professor Fang Chen, Executive Director of the UTS Data Science Institute, UTS,
Paul Chan, Founder and CEO of Decidr.ai, and
Murray Hurps, Director of Entrepreneurship, UTS
