About: After Hazelwood Local's Fall Minifest (3:30–6 PM), head over to the Hazelwood Food Recycling Site (4501 Sylvan Ave) for a Halloween-flavored launch party celebrating the City of Pittsburgh's Food Justice Fund. Explore hands-on composting demos, try the sifting competition, show off your costume, and visit partner vendors. Learn how diverting your food scraps earns Impact Credits you can spend with event vendors and local businesses (or redeem for compost). Credits are backed by the compost produced on-site, tying economic value to healthy soil and a stronger neighborhood food system.
This open-house style event features local food and drink, activities for all ages, and real-time counters showing pounds diverted, credits issued, and compost bags claimed. Costumes encouraged!
