Sea Level Rise: How is the San Francisco Bay region planning for it?
Coastal communities are facing increasing threats from sea level rise. The San Francisco Bay region is leading an innovative, cross-jurisdictional effort to protect our shorelines, ecosystems, and communities from the increasing threat of sea level rise. With the recent passage of state legislation (Senate Bill 272) and local guidelines (the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan), we find ourselves at a unique moment in time for climate adaptation planning.
During this event, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission will be joined by four local governments paving the way in sea level rise adaptation. You will hear about the policy landscape guiding sea level rise planning, including the latest approaches to integrating nature-based solutions and equity considerations into shoreline adaptation. Local governments will share their on-the-ground experiences implementing adaptation planning, including successes, where challenges remain, and how collaborative regional planning is opening new opportunities to adapt together. This event offers an inside look into how regional guidance, community priorities, and local planning efforts align to support more resilient and ecologically beneficial shoreline planning.
