Forest and Friends - October 30, 2025
It is time for one of my favorite fun forest photos, with the onset of autumn causing the eponymous Smiley Face of Smiley Face Hill, Oregon to stand out in yellow (larch) against the green (Douglas Fir).
Fall has arrived, for most of the West Coast that’s another fire season in the books. Though these days fire season is pretty much year-round – so we never really know what the next few months will bring us (Colorado and Los Angeles have had devastating fires just after New Years recently, after all). At Earth Force we are deploying and scaling now; Arden.ai recently decloaked coming out of stealth with their initial round of financing, and it seems everyone is talking seedlings and restoration these days (*waves at the locals from Mast*). With the government shutdown (shitdown typo more apt than we’d like) impacting our friends and partners in the agencies we’ve had a busy month – there is a lot to discuss in Forestry. I’m in the field this week, but looking forward to meeting new people and talking forestry, climate, startups, and spiders (because it is Halloween!). This’ll be a great month to come on out and join us for the first time.
Feel free to join us for pizza and a pint as we talk about climate! We’ll be geeking out, enjoying the taplist, menu, and friendship while we talk forests, startups, GIS, policy, etc. I’ll be wearing a hardhat and cruising vest – feel free to walk right up and join our table.
