About Event

Session 4: Hardware of Quantum Computing

Join us for the fourth installment of the Open London Quantum Computing 2026 series, hosted at UCL by UCL Quantum Society, together with the KCL Quantum Mechanics Society and Imperial QTSoc. This session moves from theory to hardware, with a lecture from a leading UCL researcher and talks from two companies building quantum computers today.

Prof. John Morton is Professor of Nanoelectronics & Nanophotonics at UCL and a co-founder of Quantum Motion. His research focuses on spin qubits in silicon. He'll be covering quantum error correction: why qubits are so fragile, and how we can protect quantum information well enough to run useful computations.

Quantum Motion is a London-based company building quantum computers on standard silicon chip technology. Alice & Bob is a Paris-based company developing "cat qubits" designed to resist errors at the hardware level. Both will talk about how quantum technologies are being developed for real-world use.

This event is free and open to students from every London university. No prior quantum background is needed. Places are limited, so register soon to secure your spot.

When: Wednesday, 4 November | 18:00–20:00

Where: XLG1, Christopher Ingold Building, UCL

Open London Quantum Computing is a collaboration between King's, Imperial and UCL.
