Transition Talks: Making the move into AI Safety, with Rebecca Martin
Transition Talks: Rebecca Martin in conversation with LIaiSE
This year, AI agents being tested by OpenAI escaped their test environment and broke into Hugging Face’s systems. AI risks are no longer theoretical, and the field working on them is growing fast.
Its biggest bottleneck isn’t ideas or money; it’s people. Coefficient Giving’s Project Tailwind calls people “the binding constraint on the field”. It is now funding work to bring experienced professionals from government and industry into AI safety, to start new projects or take senior roles in existing ones.
Transition Talks is a new LIaiSE series. Each one is an honest conversation with someone who has made that move.
First up is Rebecca Martin. She led alumni engagement at Imperial College Business School and is now joining GovAI as Head of Community and Partnerships. We’ll talk about:
What made her move into AI Safety, and why now
What AI safety organisations need from senior hires, and what’s often missing
How your experience transfers
Practical tips for becoming legible and building signals
The plan
