Workshop: Unscripted Urbanism

​Inspired by Ludovic Nkoth's painting Smoke Break, on view as part of In Abstracto, In Concreto: On Memory and Presence at Efie Gallery, this workshop explores how everyday people temporarily claim and repurpose public spaces for social gathering and other uses.

​Participants work with photo prompts and creative materials to reimagine their chosen spaces, drawing on their own lived experiences and memories while thinking speculatively – imagining alternative futures for how public spaces could be claimed, used, and felt. Creative materials and methods include drawing and annotation, writing, collaging, tracing and overlaying, and more three-dimensional building.
