Writing Effective User Stories with AI
Traditionally, Product Managers write stories and engineers code them. In modern engineering teams, Product Engineers co-write, refine, and validate these specifications. AI can draft a PRD or a set of user stories in seconds, but you can only judge that output if you already know what a good one looks like.
This workshop breaks down the entire requirement flow: understanding how strategic product roadmaps define business goals, how those goals translate into a PRD, and how to decompose PRD features into bite-sized stories using INVEST principles. Participants will focus heavily on writing Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) Acceptance Criteria using Given, When, and Then structures. By defining airtight, edge-case-heavy Acceptance Criteria during the planning stage, engineers effectively pre-write the guardrails and test suites that AI tools use to generate production code.
Workshop Contents Breakdown
From Roadmap to PRD: How high-level product milestones transition into functional Product Requirements Documents.
User Story Architecture: Structuring stories using the As a User, I want Action, so that Value syntax.
INVEST Principles: Applying Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small, and Testable criteria to technical tasks.
Decomposing Epics: Breaking down large feature sets into manageable, sprint-ready stories.
BDD Acceptance Criteria as AI Guardrails: Writing Given/When/Then scenarios that act as deterministic prompts and validation tests for AI assistants.
Judging AI Output: Generating PRDs and User Stories with AI, then reviewing them against these standards.
Who Should Attend
Software engineers, technical leads, and students in STEM curriculums who want to eliminate ambiguity in requirements and bridge the gap between product strategy and code execution.
What Can Be Achieved
The capability to take a high-level roadmap goal or vague business request, trace it through a PRD, and break it down into perfectly sized, testable engineering tasks optimized for AI-assisted delivery.
