Beginner-Friendly Urban Sketching: Perspective & Line Drawing ✏️🏙️
Ever looked at a beautiful building or café and thought, I wish I knew how to draw this?
This time, we’re going back to the basics: how to see a scene, simplify it, and turn it into a confident line drawing.
Join us for a relaxed, beginner-friendly two-hour workshop where we’ll explore simple perspective techniques and learn how to make your sketches feel more structured and three-dimensional — without getting lost in complicated rules.
No drawing experience necessary.
✏️ What we’ll do
📐 Learn simple perspective — Understand horizon lines, vanishing points, and how to use perspective to draw buildings and interiors more naturally.
🖊️ Build a sketch from simple shapes — Learn how to break down a complex scene into a few basic shapes before adding details.
✏️ Practice line drawing — Explore proportions, confident lines, and how to suggest depth without needing to draw everything.
🏙️ Create your own urban sketch — Choose a view from the space around you or work from one of our prepared reference images.
👩🎨 Get guidance & feedback — I’ll demonstrate the techniques and walk around throughout the workshop to help you with your individual drawing.
🖼️ Share & reflect — We’ll finish by sharing our sketches and what we discovered along the way.
🎨 What’s included?
Paper, pencils, erasers, and drawing pens will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own sketchbook and favorite drawing materials.
✨ Who is this for?
Anyone who wants to learn the basics of urban sketching, improve their perspective and line drawing, or simply spend a relaxed afternoon making something.
No previous drawing experience needed — just bring your curiosity.
📍 Where are we meeting?
We’ll meet at a community space near Bernauer Str. in Berlin Mitte. The exact location will be provided after booking.
✨ Who am I?
I’m Rui, a former architect who later moved into corporate product design before finding my way back to art. I’m now a self-taught watercolor artist passionate about urban sketching and creativity.
You can find my artwork and creative journey on Instagram: @rsong.studio
Through my own journey of learning to draw, I’ve found that you don’t need to be naturally “good at art” to start. You just need a way to look at things differently — and a little practice.
Come join me for a relaxed afternoon of drawing, learning, and experimenting. ✏️☕️
