Takeda Drum Workshop - Winter Solstice Celebration
Takeda Drum Workshop - Winter Solstice Celebration
Free Event | Motherland Music, Inglewood
Date: December 21, 2024 | Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Join us this Winter Solstice for a special Takeda Drum workshop at Motherland Music in Inglewood! The Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, is a time to reflect, renew, and reconnect—an ideal moment to come together as a community and embrace the power of rhythm. Stick around afterward because Julian from Magiktea will be serving his delicious tea to keep the celebration flowing!
This workshop will feature the Takeda Drum, a brand new bamboo instrument invented by John Kaizan Neptune. Inspired by the Nigerian Udu and crafted in Taiwan from 100% bamboo, the Takeda Drum brings a unique, warm, resonant sound that is as rich in culture as it is in musical potential. Utilizing techniques from various traditions across the world, this drum is a true fusion of global rhythms, blending influences from African, Asian, and Western percussion styles to create a truly international instrument.

Whether you’re new to drumming or an experienced percussionist, everyone is welcome! I’ll introduce you to some basic patterns on the Takeda Drum, and we’ll have space for more experienced drummers to share their rhythms and ideas. We’ll close the session with a lively drum circle jam, where we can come together and create something beautiful in celebration of the season.
Limited spots available, so be sure to register soon to secure your place. I’m excited to share this incredible instrument with you and connect through music on this meaningful evening!
