Machine Sewing: The Linn Tee
DESCRIPTION
Come sew a simple linen or cotton shirt with Azadi Folk School, using the Linn Tee pattern by Elizabeth Suzann! Class is 3.5 hours long and the project generally takes beginners 2 hours to finish, so you will leave with a finished product!
Class Difficulty: This is a class for confident beginners. We will review machine basics if needed like threading your machine, straight stitch, back stitch, and top-stitching, as well as bias binding and curved hems. If you have no experience with a machine, that’s ok, we’ll teach you and you’ll get the hang of it!
What You'll Learn:
How to cut out garment pieces and follow a pattern
How to construct a basic shirt
Basic topstitching
How to sew a curved hem
How to hem a garment
Class Fee: This is a bring your own fabric class! The cost of instruction and basic materials for this class is $75. This includes use of sewing machines, thread, fabric scissors, and all our other tools, as well as a large-formatted printed pattern. You will also receive an embroidery kit in case you’d like to decorate your shirt later.
Sizing + Fabric Requirements: For sizes 2-3X, we recommend getting no more than 2 yards of fabric. If you are an XXS-M, you can get 1.5 yards of fabric. If you are a 3XL and above, 2.2-2.5 yards of fabric will be sufficient.
However, 2 yards (or 3 yards if you are a size 3XL and above) is the safest option, leaving you with plenty of extra fabric for mistakes.
Fabric Recommendations: Light- to medium-weight fabrics with no stretch will work exceptionally well. Linen, cotton voile, silk crepe, seersucker, tencel, rayon-pretty much anything with some drape will work for this pattern. Lighter-weight fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment. You can even try this in a wool or wool blend for a wintry option.
If you have any questions about how much fabric or what kind of fabric to get, email [email protected] and we will walk you through it!
