Quantum Biology Modeling in the Age of AGI
[Important Note: Please read both papers before you arrive at the event!]
Photosynthesis, bird navigation, enzyme catalysis, maybe even cognition: a growing body of work asks whether life exploits quantum effects in ways our current biological models still miss. The hardest questions are not only philosophical but computational: can coherence, entanglement, and information flow persist in warm, noisy biological systems, and how would we model them if they do?
Join us for an evening of close reading and discussion across two papers. We start with a quantum information science take on leading quantum models of consciousness, including the Posner molecule hypothesis and the question of whether entanglement can survive inside living systems. We then turn to a concrete microtubule model: tryptophan networks as open quantum systems that may route optical excitations, coherence, and correlations through cytoskeletal structure. The second paper uses QuTiP, the Quantum Toolbox in Python, to simulate Lindblad open-system dynamics.
Come if you work in quantum information, computational biology, quantum biology, or you just want to read the frontier of applied consciousness research and discuss it together.
