Demand in Practice: How Buyers, Banks, and Governments Scale Carbon Removal (COP31)
Carbon removal will not scale on ambition alone. Projects need buyers with long-term commitments, capital that can turn those commitments into investment, and governments that recognise removals in national climate plans. This session brings all three to the same table.
Taking the Lower Thames Crossing, Britain’s pathfinder for carbon-neutral construction and the first UK infrastructure project with a legally binding carbon limit, as a starting point, the panel walks through a real deal from end to end: how a public buyer creates durable demand for carbon removal alongside deep emissions cuts, how global finance converts that demand into investable structures, and how countries like the UK and Türkiye can replicate the model at national scale.
Expect a practical, jargon-light conversation for buyers, investors, policymakers and anyone working on national climate strategies, closing with clear asks for recognising carbon removal at the policy level.
Hosted by Carbonaires at the Think Negative CDR Pavilion. Speakers to be announced.
