Discofoot

​Miss the World Cup? Why not try Discofoot, the dance battle meets fútbol/soccer sensation, created in 2016 by choreographers Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley. Discofoot premiered in the US in July 2026, in honor of the World Cup. Discofoot “refuses to land in performance or sport, in the campy, in the ridicule or in the high art. It really wants to float somewhere there in the middle,” says Caley.  According to Jacobsson and Caley, Discofoot is “a kickin’, DJ spininn’, free-styling battle, where football's rules are twisted and thrashed by dance. Let the choreography of the ball take you on a ride that passes the unknown and spectacular possibilities ... the match/performance is played using the basic rules of European football (Soccer). BUT, with one defining factor. To move and/or travel on the field, all are required to dance. Never at rest, a continuous improvisation develops that follows the ball yet also pays close attention to artistic merit.”  This workshop will explore the background of Discofoot, and give you time to create, practice and perform your own five-minute Discofoot with a team of 11 players! You don’t need dance or fútbol/soccer experience - just arrive in comfortable clothes and shoes, and excited to move!
