Happy Social Work Month!

COPE Family Support Center and the Child Abuse Prevention Council is partnering with the National Association of Social Workers-CA and National University to host a screening of the Oakland-based documentary A Rising Tide. The film follows several Bay Area families navigating poverty while highlighting the structural and economic barriers that shape opportunity, stability, and family wellbeing.

Following the screening, we will host a moderated panel discussion with:

  • Cheryl Fabio, Director of A Rising Tide

  • Michelle Starratt, Director, Alameda County Community Development Agency

  • Claudia Ramirez, Executive Director, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County

  • Brandi Howard, President & CEO, East Bay Community Foundation

The conversation will explore how housing policy, economic opportunity, and community investments influence family stability and what policy opportunities may help strengthen prevention and support for families.
