This time, we’re talking about money. But perhaps not in the way you’d expect.
It’s a Rich Man’s World, the new book from the founders of Female Invest, starts with a fairly uncomfortable premise: money works differently for women.
Not simply because of what we earn or whether we invest, but because our financial lives are shaped by everything around them — work, relationships, motherhood, health, ageing, expectations, and the systems we move through. The book looks at eight major life themes that can quietly shape a woman’s financial future, often long before we realise they’re doing it.
A little confession from me: I’m turning 42 and I’ve only just started properly learning how to invest.
When I shared that recently, my inbox exploded.
Women I know — smart, accomplished women with careers, businesses and families — started asking me where I was learning, how I had started, what I was investing in. And I realised there are a lot of us arriving slightly late to this particular party.
Which makes this feel like exactly the right book for us to read together.
We’ll talk about money and power, the financial decisions we make and the ones that are quietly made for us. About earning versus owning. Motherhood, relationships and independence. Why so many of us were taught to work hard for money without necessarily being taught what to do with it afterwards.
And, most importantly, what we might want to do differently from here.
