​Dario Amodei recently called for AI development to slow down, backed by Sam Altman and Elon Musk. But Amodei also pointed to US-China strategic competition as a reason AI keeps accelerating. While much of the world, and a good part of Silicon Valley, worries about AI risk, neither Chinese nor US leadership shows any sign of wanting to slow down.

​Here's the part that gets left out: Asia is a tech taker, not a tech maker. Whatever pace the US and China settle on, or don't, we inherit it. If a slowdown does happen, our current rate of adoption slows too, and that hits every innovator and startup ecosystem riding on it.
