THE THRESHOLD
Inside Vault Seven, Volume Two: Next Stop—Rome, Italy is a participatory multi-channel video installation and live curatorial excavation. Conceived by 2024 Guggenheim Fellow and 2026/2027 American Academy in Rome Prize Winner Taji Ra'oof Nahl (TR7), this activation reinvents the traditional artist lecture, and PowerPoint presentation. Rather than moving through a static sequence of slides, attendees enter a responsive visual almanac where multiple lens-based works project simultaneously across the Skyline Room.
THE INTERRUPTION PROTOCOL (HOW IT WORKS)
This is not a passive screening. You are actively invited to disrupt the visual flow:
Stop the Screen: At any moment, raise your hand to ask Taji to pause a specific video projection.
Live Excavation: Taji will deliver spontaneous oral historiography—deconstructing the scene’s origin, collaborative network, historical underpinnings, or systemic function within his broader catalog.
Artist Interventions: The artist may also self-interrupt, freezing the frame whenever an image, gesture, or memory demands deeper public interrogation.
Collective Canvas: Once the dialogue concludes, the projection resumes. The pacing is unscripted, transforming the room into a living sculpture painted with verbal history and collective curiosity.
THE PROVENANCE & DEDICATION
Subtitled Next Stop—Rome, Italy, Volume Two opens the archive before Nahl's departure for his residency at the American Academy in Rome. The evening traces the Philadelphia collaborations, field trips, and creative milestones that shaped his practice, featuring a special dedication to his uncle, Yahya Abdul Rashid, whose enduring mentorship remains a foundational pillar of Nahl's artistic evolution.
