Regenerative Cities Manifesto
This event introduces a strategic manifesto for redefining cities as regenerative ecosystems, revitalizing natural systems, cultural heritage, and human well-being based on the Integral Ecological Development model and the FAO’s 1.5°C Roadmap.
This event unveils a strategic manifesto for reimagining cities as dynamic, living ecosystems capable of regenerating natural environments, preserving cultural heritage, and enhancing the well-being of communities. Co-developed by Tokyo Tatemono and the Future Food Institute, and drawing inspiration from the FAO 1.5°C Roadmap and the principles of Integral Ecology, the manifesto sets forth an ambitious vision for urban transformation. At its core, it calls for a fundamental redesign of urban systems to drastically reduce emissions while fostering resilience at the bioregional level. It advocates for the integration of ecological thinking into every layer of city planning and infrastructure, aiming to harmonize human development with the rhythms of nature. The manifesto further promotes the reestablishment of urban–rural linkages through circular governance models that ensure sustainable use and sharing of resources. Recognizing the need for new economic paradigms, it also champions the mobilization of regenerative finance and the adoption of alternative prosperity metrics. Above all, the initiative emphasizes the power of radical civic collaboration, placing particular importance on youth leadership and innovation hubs as engines of inclusive and regenerative change.
