action party for a green Washington (ft. Director of Policy at WA Dept of Natural Resources)
What you should know (food! fun! friends!)
About the event:
August's monthly theme is REWILDING and how it intersects with the climate crisis. The third Tuesday of the month is our ACT night
Kate Dean, the Director of Policy at Washington's Department of Natural Resources (!!) will be joining us for a bit to set some context with a mini Q&A so we understand how our everyday actions can connect to policy
After that, we will break out into rewilding action stations that include:
Going around the block to identify invasive plants
Writing to city council for a stronger tree canopy as part of Seattle's Climate Action Plan
How to plant native plants even if you don't have a garden
And more!
No experience needed! We'll give you all the guidance you need.
Please do your best to arrive by 6:30!
6-7ish will be dedicated dinner + chat time, 7-7:45pm will be a discussion with Kate, and after 7:45, we'll move to choose-your-own-adventure action stations so you can make a difference before you leave
More broadly:
Soapbox Seattle is the city's most joyful community space for climate action. We gather EVERY TUESDAY same time same place (climate church?? lol)
It's all ages
Plant-based dinner is always included so you don't have to think about what to eat. We have our own lovely chef so the food is cooked with love from local and regenerative farmers
No you do not have to be "a climate person" to come; you just need to be excited to meet people who share your values of caring about the earth/each other/wanting to breathe air etc. and no experience is required!
There will be activities and programming! This is not one of those networking events where you pretend to be on your phone because you don't know what to do.
All our events are sliding scale and if the litsed options don't work for you, you can request a reparative ticket here if you need one. It costs us ~$35 per person to put on so please contribute what you can
This space is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community structures to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community!
