NOIR FEST: Art as Cultural Software
Calling all film lovers, dreamers and visionaries!
We are thrilled to announce the return of NOIR FEST—our first in-person edition since the pandemic! NOIR FEST has put Black dreams on screen since 2019.
This November, we gather in New Haven for a powerful celebration of film, art, music, and storytelling under the theme 'Art as Cultural Software'.
This theme helps us tap into the power of the arts to operationalize a world in which thriving is the default.
We are honored to welcome Kunle Afolayan, Africa’s most important filmmaker, whose work continues to shape the global conversation on cinema. We will be honoring Warrington Hudlin, a trailblazer in Black independent film, and featuring the extraordinary artistry of Tsholo Maseko (South Africa) of the Umseme Uyakhuluma Collective, among other groundbreaking voices and projects from across the Black world.
The weekend will open with a Family Reunion & Art Exhibit, followed by screenings, workshops, the Harvard-Yale Media Salon & the NOIR FEST / Creative Valley Week Showcase on Saturday.
The NOIR FEST team has historically curated and elevated top-tier films and filmmakers—which have gone on to achieve great success. This year promises no less.
We are grateful to be in partnership with the Yale Graduate & Professional Student Senate, the Yale Black Graduate Network and YBAA NHV. We look forward to welcoming you into this community of visionaries, creators, and cultural builders.
Join us for a weekend that will honor our legends, uplift emerging voices, and present the future of Black cinema and cultural expression.
