SCetchCamp: Pencil Drawing Basics

​In this SCetch Camp session, we’ll explore the timeless world of pencil drawing. This medium may seem simple at first glance, but with just a pencil we can create depth, texture, atmosphere, and incredibly rich drawings.

​Our academic focus will be texture, value, and volume. We’ll learn how light and shadow work together to transform flat shapes into believable forms. Through a series of small exercises, we’ll explore different pencil techniques such as hatching, cross-hatching, blending, lifting highlights, and varying line weight.

​No previous experience is needed. We are here to explore, try things out, and learn together in a soft, creative, cozy atmosphere. Materials are provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own pencils, favorite sketchbook, or drawing tools if you like.

​You’ll learn: How to create convincing textures, how to use light and shadow to build volume, how to make objects feel three-dimensional, and how to bring more realism and confidence into your pencil drawings.
