About Event

Impression or inspiration? This show gathers Latine and Caribbean artists to explore the idea of what it means to be “American”. Opening on the same weekend of the United States’ “Semi Quincentennial” - we’ll look to see how Caribbean ideas have shaped the culture of the United States and the deep wounds that US imperialist policies have left on these island nations. There’s a miseducation in the U.S. of the boundaries that define “America”, which extends beyond the United States to include Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. To tell the story of the United States without the inclusion of this region would render the history incomplete.

Inspired by Glenn Ligon’s “Double America 2” - the artists will be invited to share their perspectives on two Americas and how they influence and reflect each other.

Artists create work from their perspectives, being from Latin America or being Latine/x/a/o in the diaspora responding to three themes: Voices, Visions, and Spirituality.

Join us for the opening night - there will be soft drinks
