Climate writers 🌱 June ft. Annika Reynolds on regulating emissions with the Safeguard Mechanism + pub lunch 🍔
Concerned about climate change? We host monthly gatho's to email politicians to take climate action, and learn about climate solutions from experts.
Our June Speaker is Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) National Campaign Manager Annika Reynolds, a climate and energy policy expert who will teach us about the Safeguard mechanism. The Safeguard mechanism is a key climate policy that regulates Australia's top polluters to reduce industrial emissions in line with our 2035 emissions reduction targets. According to the ACF and Climate Council, the current scheme falls short of these 2035 targets unless we urgently reform this policy in the upcoming 2026-2027 review. Come along and learn how better regulating industrial emissions can set Australia on the path to a cleaner, more resilient economy.

🌱 About Climate Writers:
Climate Writers is a grassroots community that empowers everyday Australians to become lifelong advocates for the environment and their local community. Starting out as living room gatho’s with friends, we have since grown into a community of 400+ people, who have sent 800+ personalised letters to politicians on climate action, met with dozens of MPs, and contributed to a policy paper presented to the NSW Minister. Through monthly gatho’s across Australia, we aim to elevate the conversation about climate to a massive and sustained scale that is impossible for all politicians to ignore.
We're 100% volunteer-run and politically non-partisan.
