​The health of our oceans is fundamental to life on Earth, yet it faces unprecedented threats from both visible pollution and hidden illegal activities. This event, anchored by the powerful new documentary "Unmasked" from the EJF, dives deep into the interconnected crises impacting our marine environments. While "Unmasked" confronts the misinformation surrounding plastic pollution, drawing on findings from the "False solutions: unmasking policy gaps in addressing plastic pollution in Thailand and Southeast Asia" report, this session will broaden its scope to reveal another critical challenge: Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. IUU fishing depletes vital fish stocks, damages marine ecosystems, and undermines the livelihoods of legitimate fishers, frequently involving severe human rights abuses at sea. The session will expand the understanding of EJF's IUU work via games.
