About Event

A relationship with the right therapist can be deeply supportive, but it can also feel confusing or discouraging when something doesn’t quite click.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Is this discomfort normal?”, felt unsure how to speak up in therapy, or quietly blamed yourself when the process didn’t feel helpful, you’re not alone. Therapy is a relationship, and like any relationship, connection matters. Learning how to assess your fit with a therapist and how to advocate for yourself within therapy is a skill you can develop. And, we’d argue, a really important one, because that skill can help you navigate other relationships more authentically.

This free community workshop will help you navigate your therapy experience with more clarity and self-trust, so you can get the care that you deserve.

With guidance from a licensed therapist and the support of others who are navigating similar questions, you’ll explore:
• What a “good therapeutic fit” actually means, and how it can look different depending on your goals, temperament, and identity.
• Common signs that something may be off in therapy, and how to distinguish growth-related discomfort from misalignment.
• Small, concrete ways to advocate for yourself in session, including how to name concerns, ask for adjustments, or request clarity before deciding to move on.
• How to evaluate whether staying and working through discomfort or finding a new therapist is the most supportive next step for you.

You’ll leave with a clearer picture of what to look out for, increased confidence, and practical tools to help you feel more empowered, discerning, and supported in your therapy journey.

This event is 90 minutes long with cameras on. Participants are encouraged to introduce themselves (first names only), and share as they feel comfortable.
