Pedal to the Roots: Reconnecting with the Land, Food & Community That Sustain Us
What if moving through our city a little more slowly helped us notice the land, food, stories, and relationships that sustain it?
Join From Soil To Soul and the Coyote Valley Agroecology Coalition for Pedal to the Roots, a community biking and learning experience taking place alongside Viva CalleSJ and supported through the City of San José Climate Art Program.
🚲 Ride & Notice | 10:00–10:45 AM
Meet us at Almaden Lake Park at 10:00 AM and begin biking with us along the Viva Calle route or explore the route at your own pace.
Along the way, we invite you to slow down, make stops, notice the landscapes and communities around you, and reflect on what you experience. Reflect on what you see, feel, and discover as you pedal along the viva calle route in South San Jose.
🌱 Gather, Learn & Reconnect | 10:45 AM–12:00 PM
By 10:45 AM, we’ll gather at the UC Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at Martial Cottle Park for a guided garden walk and an opportunity to learn about regenerative growing practices.
Following the walk, we will learn from The Confederation of Ohlone People's representative to ground our gathering in Indigenous perspectives and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK). Together, we'll explore relationships between land, food, stewardship, food justice, and community resilience.
We’ll conclude with a community listening circle, creating space to share what we noticed during the journey, what shifted for us, and what possibilities emerge when we reconnect with the places and food systems around us.
We'll close our time together with refreshments.
Whether you're a cyclist, gardener, food-systems practitioner, City employee, or simply curious about experiencing San José differently, you're welcome to join us.
