Convoclub goes IRL: let's meet in Guildford, UK!
Dear Convofriends, I'm so happy to announce that Convoclub is going IRL!
On 17 June 2026, the day after the HUMIC symposium at the University of Surrey, we're hosting the very first Convoclub IRL: a casual, community-driven day for conversation designers, linguists, AI folks and anyone who loves language and the way humans (and machines) talk.
Think of it as the day where industry meets academia over coffee, biscuits and a walk around campus or the historical town of Guildford. No format, no full programme, just good conversations about conversation design, linguistics, AI and life.
You can join us as a stand-alone event, or as an add-on to HUMIC the day before. Heads up: each event has its own registration page, so if you'd like to attend both, please make sure to register for both separately. You can register for HUMIC here.
What to expect
I'm still dreaming up the exact shape of the day, but it might look something like this:
🔹 09:30–10:00: Reception & coffee. Arrive, grab a coffee, and meet the faces behind the Zoom tiles (yes, we have feet!).
🔹 10:00–12:30: Short, informal talks from the community. Ask-me-anythings, practical advice for real-life design challenges, showcasing your work, or perhaps a panel? Let's see what we can make happen!
🔹 12:30–13:30: Lunch.
🔹 13:30–16:00: Choose your own afternoon. Workshops, "share your experience" sessions, or a walk & talk across Surrey's beautiful campus. Whatever helps you connect.
The full programme is still taking shape, and that's the point. If you'd like to lead a session, do a portfolio review, or bring a topic you've been dying to talk about, let me know on the registration form.
Practical info
Location: University of Surrey, Guildford campus (35 minutes from London Waterloo). Hosted with the generous support of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI (PAI). Huge thanks to them for opening up their space.
Cost: Free. Spots are limited, so register early. If we fill up, the Luma waitlist will open and I'll release spots as they free up.
