About Event

Underpainting Collective presents Sandra Lo: Seeing in Color, a retrospective exhibition featuring paintings by Sandra Lo. Drawn from a catalog of over 800 works from the past two decades, the show gathers portraits, figures, still lifes, and landscapes painted en plein air, built on an exacting, unmistakable command of color and light.

Lo’s subjects are close to home: recognizable Bay Area faces and places, scenes painted inside the Legion of Honor, hundreds of models drawn from the Bay Area Models Guild, built over years of working outdoors across the region. Together, the paintings amount to something like a private archive of the Bay Area itself: the people and light she has spent two decades paying attention to, rendered with the same impressionistic naturalism she admires in touchstones like Sargent and Sorolla.

Sandra Lo: Seeing in Color will run from September 26 to December 18, 2026. Opening reception Saturday, October 3.
