Immersive Series - Approaching Feedback: From Dread to Curiosity and Connection
💫Immersive series: A one-hour workshop or webinar on a topic that’s not purely L&D, but deals with how we develop and grow as people. It’s about the person behind the L&D role.
💫Participation: Interactive webinar, chat, polls, and sometimes breakouts.
As the year draws to a close, many of us in the business world will be busy preparing for performance reviews. As managers, we’ll be evaluating team members; as peers, we'll be providing feedback to colleagues—some of whom we've developed real friendships with. As L&D specialists, we’ll be supporting managers and teams in understanding and acting on the feedback they receive. Exciting times, right? Or how does reading this make you feel?
We often hear that feedback helps us grow, both personally and professionally. But if that’s true, why does research show that most people dread receiving it? Strong emotions can surface: anger (“I’m upset my boss won’t speak to me directly”), hurt (“Why did he say I’m not trying hard enough?”), or sadness (“I thought she liked me!”). It’s common to feel defensive.
Yet, there are helpful tools and frameworks that can make feedback more likely to have the desired impact. That’s why in this session, you’ll be invited to be curious, playful, and have fun as we experiment with and practice ways to give feedback that is constructive, actionable, and comes from a “good place.”
