Builder Meetup: Running Local AI
Builder is a monthly gathering for people who like to build: devs, designers, PMs, founders, and the AI-curious. Each month explores a new theme related to open-source AI, privacy, decentralized systems, and adjacent technologies.
This edition is all about running local AI. There will be two short presentations, followed by interactive discussion and Q&A.
0xSero, an open-source AI researcher, will dive into how to run open models on hardware you already have or can more affordably acquire. He'll cover model selection, installation, performance tradeoffs, and the strengths and limitations of different hardware options.
Tomasz Tunguz, founder of Theory Ventures, will discuss localmaxxing and why a growing share of AI workloads may move from the cloud to local devices. Drawing on benchmarking and industry trends, he'll explore where local models are already competitive and what this shift could mean for the future of AI infrastructure.
The evening starts with pizza and mingling from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, with programming running from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Expect plenty of audience participation and networking. Easy, free parking is available right by the office.
